Health Benefits of Common Medicinal Plants of Palpa

       Recognition of values of medicinal plants have been essential for preventing and treating diseases with the development of better health condition. They are non-toxic with less side effects than the chemically synthesized medicines but we are moving to hospitals stepping on those valuable medicines. People living in rural and mountainous areas have easy access to those plants. The development of scientific and technical studies and research may counteract the danger of many harmful diseases.

Palpa district is considered as the big storehouse of enormous medicinal plants but due to lack of sufficient knowledge most of them are decomposing on the hills. Some of such plants and their uses are as follows: -

1.      Acacia catechu (Khayer): Bark and heartwood in chronic diarrhoea, dysentery, ulceration of mouth, drying wounds, kill worms in cattles, cough, etc.

 2.      Acorus calamus (Bojho): Root stock in bronchitis, dysentery, diarrhoea, remittent fever, stimulant, nerve tonic, etc.

3.      Aegle marmelos (Bel): Ripe fruit against constipation and diarrhoea, dyspepsis, root and bark against fever, dysentery, etc.

4.      Aloe vera (Ghiu Kumari): Leaf against piles, eyes disease, tumor, high blood pressure, burning, splenomegaly, vomiting, liver complaints, as cooling, stomachic, etc.

5.      Amomum subulatum (Alainchi): Seeds in neuralgia and as stomachic, oil from seeds stimulant, applied to eyelids during inflammation, etc.

6.      Artemisia indica (Titepati): Young shoot and leaves cure asthma, itching, gastritis, rheumatism, bronchitis, fever, headache, skin disease, insecticide, haemorrhage, etc.

8.      Azadirachta indica (Neem): Green twigs to brush teeth, cures toothache, bad breath, gum disease, boil, skin diseases. Bark tonic, to treat fever, skin disease. Seed oil anthelmintic and antiseptic, etc.
